CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Theme: FOOD 

Ibua Publishing invites writers to send submissions for the Bold 2022 Continental Call under the theme Food. 

Our various cultures boast of rich food traditions. But beyond the sustenance it gives, food is a complex element of life on this continent—in access to, and production, preparation, and availability. Food is also personal triggering powerful associations that we carry with us, just as our eating habits become convoluted entryways into self-discovery. 

All submissions should be set in a locale on the African continent and inspired by the food from our rich cultures and our interaction with it.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Only one submission can be entered per author per category (Short story/Memoir or Poem).
2. Submissions should be in Microsoft Word, as follows: Font: Calibri Light; Font Size 12; Line Spacing 1.5. 
3. Submissions’ word limit is 6,000 to 10,000 words for Short Story/Memoir, and 100 for Poetry.
4. Submissions must be previously unpublished and in the English language.
5. Submissions should include Bold 2022: food on the cover page.
6. Writers must be from and living in the African Continent.
7. Writers should be 18 years and above.

The submission window closes on Sunday 29th May 2022.

What the writers get: 

1. The winning story and poem receive a cash prize of USD 300 and USD 120 respectively.
2. The Shortlisted stories and poems will receive USD 100 and USD 50 respectively. The shortlist is a total of 5 per category i.e. Shorty Story/Memoir or Poetry. 
3. All Long-listed stories and poems will be published in the Ibua Journal under the theme Bold 2022: Food.

Terms and Conditions 

1. Ibua Publishing reserves the right to accept or reject any piece of work.
2. Longlisted submissions (10 per Category) will undergo further revision, if necessary. We encourage all writers to keep an open mind during this Editorial process.
3. A shortlist will be determined from the Final submissions at the end of the Editorial process. Only Short-listed stories and poems (5 per category) will receive a Cash Prize.
4. We only accept submissions made through our web submission portal
