It’s how amazing new love can be
that same beautiful thing can turn into something ugly,
Talk about beauty fading…
It’s how we throw care where it doesn’t belong
letting ourselves think about things too much.
It’s how there are pictures of us that we love but we’re too afraid to show the world
So we settle for skimming through our galleries from time to time, admiring the smiles and laughter put on for the sole purpose of taking these photos
It’s how we marvel at these photos
Wondering how we can look so good
But we choose to be modest,
“Vanity is a sin after all”.
It’s how we don’t talk about the things that truly need to be talked about.
We shy away, ignore, act like it never happened and dismiss it.
It’s how when people end their lives, we are the first ones to come running,
begging people to “talk to us” and advertising how our “DMs are open”
It’s how we’ll remind them to check on their strong friends.
It’s how everything is all fun and games these days until it isn’t, and then it continues to be fun and games.
Because the truth hurts too much
So we don’t acknowledge the things going on in the country and in the world.
It’s how social media has made it easy to turn serious matters into a great big joke.
It’s how we hold on to memes and Twitter because what a source of joy they are.
It’s how we love to pretend,
And for the most part, we have no choice but to pretend.
It’s how we pretend, the way we pretend.
